This edited anthology compiles critical viewpoints on the role of education as a catalyst for transformation in women’s narratives within diverse Indian novels.  The chapters analyse various texts and authors, emphasising the challenges and triumphs of female protagonists who confront conventional gender stereotypes via education.

The concluding chapter, Learning to Resist: The Metamorphosis of Education, Gender, And Identity in Maya and Gayatri in Anuradha Roy’s The Folded Earth and All The Lives We Never Lived shows how education and resistance against social standards allow Maya and Gayatri to fight patriarchal restraints, with Maya finding consolation in knowledge and Gayatri recovering her identity through art and disobedience.
